After taking some time off from racing and training, I started up again with the Trinidad to Clam Beach Run on January 29th. Unlike the past two years, which were wet, windy, and cold, this race was beautiful. 507 runners at the starting line.I finished fourth in my age group, which has gotten faster since I've gotten older. I wouldn't have done so well a the end if it hadn't been for Rachael, number 1418 in the blue shorts. She and I coached track together at Jacoby Creek Elementary school years ago. She ran cross country for HSU. I was feeling pretty good when I passed her early in the race, but she caught me at the beach when I was slowing down. We have the same gait, so it was fun to run the last two miles together. She slowed when when we hit the dry sand at the finish line and told me to go ahead. She was just a second behind me.
It feels good to be getting back into shape.
